The Parque Nacional Marino (Marine National Park) on Isla Bastimentos, located in the province of Bocas del Toro was created in 1998. Among the 68 species of birds on Isla Bastimentos the great majority live in forests within the national park. There are pretty red forehead parrots, the blue forehead specie of parrot, the hummingbird and the crowned nymph. On Isla Bastimentos you can also find numberous marine birds like the Tijeras and laughing seagulls.
Within Isla Bastimentos you can find the Islands of Coral, this site is the refuge for trout, angel fish, grouper, parrot fish, butterfly fish, crabs, lobsters and many other marine species. Also on the Isla Bastimento there are as many echinoderms as there are starts, cucumber and star fish.

CAYOS ZAPATILLAS - located at the northeast end of Parque Nacional Marino of Isla Bastimentos, you'll be able to enjoy a number of water related activities on the beach like swimming, scuba diving or snorkeling or just take a stroll by the a nearby forest.
MANGROVE ISLANDS - On the south side of Isla Bastimentos there is an excellent place for taking a boatride or if you're more adventuresome you can do some snorkeling amongst the mangroves.
The Parque Nacional Marino of Isla Bastimentos has eye-catching coral reefs, which occupy an extension of 500 hectares. Also this park preserves the largest extension of Caribbean mangroves of the country, where you can appreciate the predominance of both red and white mangroves.
