Los Santos is the province that conserves the greatest magnitude of Panamanian traditions. Events such as the National Festival of the “Mejorana”, the Festival of the Pollera, the International Fair of Azuero, as well as its seductive beaches, rich nature and warmth of its people attract many foreign and national visitors.
Las Tablas is the capital city of Los Santos. This beautiful plain is located approximately 12 kilometers from the Pacific Coast. Las Tablas is a town that expresses Panamanian folklore and conserves its old infrastructures (“casa de quincha” which are traditional house made with mud) and has modern means of international communication. When you visit Las Tablas you will witness the confection of the national typical dress “La Pollera”, the “Camisilla”, and other native accessories.

Certainly the best "El Carnaval" celebration in Panama is in Las Tablas where beautiful Panamanian woman show off their brilliant costumes in parades and are dancing to rythmic beats. Here in Las Tablas they take the "party" to a whole new level.
The “calle arriba” (up street) and “calle abajo” (down street) present two queens, that look to conquer the supremacy of the Las Tablas’ carnival. The expensive dresses and fine accessories as well as the exotic decoration of the parade floats delight thousands of visitors. You will also see food stands, “fondas”, “murgas” (musical bands), petrol tankers filled with water and public dances during the night.
The parties of the king Momo, another name for the Panamanian carnivals, are celebrated in four consecutive days previous to Ash Wednesday and finalize on Tuesday night with the “burial of the sardine” where there is a fireworks spectacle. During the 2008 carnivals we had visitors from the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany, France, Japan and South Africa which contributed 48 million dollars.
Wonderful tourist attractions in Las Tablas
You won't want to miss Belisario Porras Museum. It has diplomas, condecorations and personal objects of the great liberal leader, Belisario Porras. Additionally there are exhibits of furniture (glass and wood), photographs, Dr. Porras’ iconography and remarkable material works carried out during his presidential administrations among which are: the construction of the railroad (Chiriqui), the national roadway, the Santo Tomas Hospital, the Presidential office of the Republic, the Monumental Plazas of Balboa and France, among others.

Las Tablas also has Santa Librada Catholic Church and the image of the “moñona” as Santa Librada symbol is well known. There you will see gold and fine tunics that the devoted give the church year after year plus their choir is divine accompanied by violins and guitars.
For some adventure you can hike to Cerro Canajagua which is best known as “the lookout of Azuero”, has a height of 830 meters and is the only place from where you can visualize the islands of the Panamanian Pacific. It is also considered as the main viewpoint, since you can see the provinces of Herrera, Los Santos as well as the Valley of Tonosi. It is divided in two geographic zones: low lands (extension of 40 thousand hectares) with multiple rivers, and the highlands, to the north, east and west of the district.
