Thousands of foreigners and nationals visit Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces every year. This spectacular park was established in 1992 and has a total area of 4,373 hectares (10, 806 acres) which is very comparable to the size or area covered by  the Panama Canal. Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces is  located between Parque Nacional Soberania to the north and Parque Natural Metropolitano at it's south border. The park is also in the metropolitan area of Panama City.

Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces is rich in history since it served as a route of transit. It was a trail Camino Real (Royal Way), during the Spanish Colonial era, used to transport riches from Peru, Baja California and Chile in South America to Spain, crossing a great part of the Panamanian isthmus.

You will find a great variety of flora, fauna, beautiful waterfalls and some endangered species. In the diverse fauna of Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces you will find a variety of birds such as: the crested eagle, the pheasant cuckoo, the red-and-green macaw and the slaty-tailed trogon.

The arboreal stratus of the tropical rainforest in the Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces is inhabited by the titi and evasive jujaná monkeys. On the ground of this protected area white-nosed coatis, white-tailed deer, agoutis, green iguanas among others.

Within the Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces’ dense vegetation there are typical specimen of flora found in tropical rainforests such as: ceiba, cuipo, nance, jobo, oak and the guayacan (guaiacum) which blossoms in the months of April and May announcing the end of the dry season. There are also short leafed figs and royal palms (Roystonea regia).

The Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces is one of the six nature reserves in the Canal Basin (Cuenca del Canal) area that guarantees the uninterrupted movement of species between the Parque Soberania and Parque Metropolitano as well as ensures the continuity of ecological development of the area.

The entrance of the park is two kilometers away from the Miraflores lock, and 15 kilometers away from the capital city allowing you to enjoy prestigious hotels, fine restaurants, shopping malls and entertainment centers. The Parque Nacional Camino de Cruces also has and administration headquarters and an information booth for the visitors convenience.

Remember to bring your camera, hat, glasses, repellent, comfortable clothes and binoculars. You can also trek through the restored cobbled way as well as other important sections of the historic Colonial Spanish trail, which named the park and are open.
