THE ALLURE OF TORTUGUILLA BEACH ON COLON’S COSTA ABAJO

More and more tourist travel to Panama every year to discover the beauty this country has to offer. People come looking for adventure and try to learn more about this land, especially how to have fun and to take back the best memories of their visit to Panama.

Tortuguilla If you are looking for distraction and to have good fun with family or friends, we recommend Tortuguilla a gorgeous beach located in Colon's Costa Abajo, surrounded by forest. Tortuguilla is a magical and historical place, with abundant flora, fauna and landscapes, ideal for nature lovers.

How to get to Tortuguilla beach

To enjoy a nice bath in this beaches pleasant water, all you have to do is travel to Colon; we recommend traveling by car, sine you have to travel 18 kilometers to get to the entrance that goes toward the beach. You can’t miss it; there is a sign that says “sendero hacia Tortuguilla” – trail to Tortuguilla.Tortuguilla

This beach is also known as “Batata”, in Colon’s Costa Abajo and is a treasure that represents the San Lorenzo reserve; which is located near the Gatun lock. Tortuguilla is a calm beach with clear water and much beauty to admire.

What you will find on you journey

When you journey across the trails toward the beach, you will find on one side, the beauty of the tropical forest and on the other side, the splendor of the beach and the horizon in the distance. From the road you will see the loading docks, which are typical of this charming province; as well as a red mangrove in the form of stilts and is a curious place visited by tourists.

On the way to this beach you can find some history. You'll see the battery used by the USA during WWI, which was used as part of Tortuguillathe Panama Canals defense system. If you decide to go through the forest, and you are lucky, you will see a few animals such as: the howler monkey, hawks, and other species. These forests are also inhabited by exotic animals that are not easy to see such as: jaguars, crocodiles and boas. So you can see Panama is very diverse with its habitat.

Restaurants

There is only one place near the beach where you can taste delicious dishes prepared in Colon: the Marina Shelter Bay. Here you will find a restaurant, bar, Laundromat, bookstore, internet and other facilities to enjoy while visiting Tortuguilla.
