The Museum of Anthropology "Reina Torres de Arauz" has more than 15,000 pieces of gold and/or silver work, ceramics, stone tools and ethnographies. It is located in the old rail road station built in 1912, presently the Anthropologic Museum Reina Torres de Arauz has a handicap ramp, a library, an auditorium, amphitheaters, plenty of parking spaces, among other amenities.
New Facilities
The new facilities at Reina Torres de Arauz adjust to the most modern concept in museum exhibition-hall design. With an approximate space of 5 thousand meters of roofed area and 3.500 meters of open area, this museum has become an admired place by national and foreign visitors alike.
This tremendous museum of anthropology has a four story building, a top floor and an ample exhibition area. It also has spacious warehouses, gardens and as a natural attraction it has six hectares of tropical forest, located behind the building. The vistas of this place are amazing, reason for which it is has been foreseen to offer tours on a path through the forest. This is a new service that the Anthropologic Museum Reina Torres de Arauz will, without a doubt, offer its thousands of visitors.
An innovative future
Among the future projects of the Anthropologic Museum Reina Torres de Arauz are to operate an archeological laboratory, a specialized library, offer thematic workshops, have a cafeteria and souvenir shop. It is worth noting that the first state investigation center in Panama for historic patrimony will be established within the Anthropologic Museum Reina Torres de Arauz.
A collection worthy of appreciation
The Anthropologic Museum Reina Torres de Arauz keeps the Pre-Colombian history of Panama including from the first settlers of the Isthmus from 10 thousand years ago, to the arrival of the Spaniards. The Reina Torres de Arauz hall has pieces from the “Salon de Oro” among which are: animal figures, gold, plates of armor, ceramics, jewels, breastplates, a crown and other items created by ancient indigenous people.
The digitalization of the inventory of the museum’s collection has been foreseen and they will have a team of six anthropologists that work in the mentioned collection. This new concept in museum exhibition-hall design will be focused on children and young people, since it is important to learn the history of the Panamanian man and make it fun at the same time.
